Mandelic Acid

Comes from the alpha-hydroxy family of acids. It was discovered by a German scientist named Mandel. Mandelic Acid is derived from the extract of bitter almonds.

The mandelic acid molecule is larger than the other popular alpha-hydroxy acid - glycolic acid. The large size of Mandelic’s molecule means it is absorbed more slowly through the skin resulting in a even penetration and absorbtion of the mandelic Acid. There is also no loss of efficacy because of this process.  This is the alpha-hydroxy acid to use if your skin is intolerant or too sensitive to glycolic or any of the other hydroxy acids. It is less irritating to the skin and is just a be just as potent.

Black skin
Mandelic Acid is more suitable to black skin because it produces less risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation which sometimes result when glycolic acid is used. This is because the skin sometimes reacts to irritation by producing to much pigmentation leading to Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Conditions Mandelic Acid can be useful for:

Photoaging
• Acne
• Irregular pigmentation
• Fine line and wrinkles
• Improves skin texture
• Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
• Melasma
• Lentigoes (freckles)

It is also used when preparing the skin for a laser peel.
