Chemical face peels - home facial peelsChemical face peels uses a liquid solution applied to the skin to remove the top damaged layers of the skin. Most chemical face peels are now available as home facial peels which is less expensive and requires less down time than salon based chemical peels. Mild chemical face peelsThese are usually alpha hydroxy based chemical peels. Glycolic peels, lactic acid peels and mandelic acid peels. Used for superficial skin pigmentation problems, fine wrinkling and sun damage skin.

Deep Chemical Face PeelsPhenol is used for more serious pigmentation problems. It is one of the more stronger chemical peels and penetrates deeper layers of skin. With the variety of chemicals used in home facial peels; the choice depends on the depth of the penetration. So if the skin problem is superficial a mild peel (alpha Hydroxy peels) would be sufficient, however if the problem is located in the dermis then a stronger more caustic chemicals (phenol chemical peels) are needed. Other factors that can affect choice of peels are location the peel is going to be applied to because the skin varies in thickness across the body. The face area generally heals much more quickly with fewer side effects (hyperpigmentation, scars etc) than other parts of the body e.g the neck or the back of hands. Please remember that home facial peels contain acid and so should be treated with caution. It is important to follow instructions exactly – and do not leave application on “a little longer.” Neutralisations of the acid action occurs to prevent chemical burning of the skin and prevent discolouration and skin inflammation.
